Many common communication habits and styles are ineffective and can be counter-productive, including:

  1. Blasting out email and text bombs at heated moments;
  2. Delivering bad news in writing;
  3. Talking “at” people;
  4. One-way communication without listening; and
  5. Yelling.

Teach people why these don’t work and provide effective communication alternatives.

Terry Gardiner is the founder and President of Silver Lining Seafoods and NorQuest Seafoods - a medium-size Alaska seafood processing company; and currently a Board member of the Anvil Corporation, an employee-owned company specializing in oil and gas engineering.
